A princess, a traitor, a hunter and a thief. Four teenagers with the fate of the world in their hands. Four nations destined for conflict.

In Brigant, Princess Catherine prepares for a loveless political marriage arranged by her brutal and ambitious father. In Calidor, downtrodden servant March seeks revenge on the prince who betrayed his people. In Pitoria, feckless Edyon steals cheap baubles for cheaper thrills as he drifts from town to town. And in the barren northern territories, thirteen-year-old Tash is running for her life as she plays bait for the gruff demon hunter Gravell.

As alliances shift and shatter, and old certainties are overturned, our four heroes find their past lives transformed and their futures inextricably linked by the unpredictable tides of magic and war. Who will rise and who will fall? And who will claim the ultimate prize?

Now I know some readers did not love or even like The Smoke Thieves and that is totally alright I can understand why some didn't like or love this book. But I absolutely and thoroughly love and enjoy The Smoke Thieves so much. Yes there are five different pov's in this book which I will tell you all the truth I don't mind reading two or three different pov's at once but five is a little too much for my liking to read five different pov's all at once. But I was so caught off a guard on how much I love reading each pov's I absolutely love each character and I never got a bored reading the mind of each character in this amazing book. To me, each character was very well developed, rounded and complex and there is also diversity in The Smoke Thieves which I absolutely love and adore diversity in books. The plotline and concept was very intriguing and engaging that I needed to know and learn more about the plotline and concept of The Smoke Thieves, I especially wanted to know on what Lady Ann was trying to communicate to Princess Catherine at the beginning of the book. The writing style flowed well and was very descriptive and expressive. I felt like I was there next to Princess Catherine at her castle in Brigant or I was next to Tash and Gravell while there was demon hunting in Pitoria by the way Pitoria is a very beautiful and loyal country I just love imagining this beautiful country in my mind. I was entranced and engaged from the first chapter all the way to the end of The Smoke Thieves that I so didn't want it to end but alas were are left in a cliffhanger but hope at the end that it will be pure torture to wait for the next book to come out. All and all I absolutely love and enjoy The Smoke Thieves so much that I will most definitely check out Sally Green other books out hopefully soon!
Hi - I'm Sally Green. I'm the author of the real-world/ fantasy Half Bad Trilogy, which is made up of Half Bad, Half Wild, and Half Lost. Most people read them in that order but there's always a few who don't. Many people who read them are teenagers but there's a lot who aren't.

I'm currently working on a new series called The Smoke Thieves, which is due to be published in spring 2018 and is definitely fantasy (there will be a map).

I said I'd never write another trilogy after Half Bad but it seems I lied.

I live in a village in north-west England.

There's some stuff about the Half Bad trilogy at www.halfbadworld.com.

  1. I'm so glad you enjoyed this book!! I skimmed through your review because I'm currently reading this book right now, and I'm only about 2/3 of the way, but I'm loving it too. And I totally agree with you about the 5 different POVs. Great review.

  8. This sounds like an awesome book. I don't know if I can handle 5 POV, I tend to start getting grumpy at 3 so that might be pushing it a bit. But, I'm glad you enjoyed the book, too bad about the cliff hanger though.
