Nikki Kill does not see the world like everyone else. In her eyes, happiness is pink, sadness is a mixture of brown and green, and lies are gray. Thanks to a rare phenomenon called synesthesia, Nikki’s senses overlap, in a way that both comforts and overwhelms her.

Always an outsider, just one ‘D’ shy of flunking out, Nikki’s life is on the fast track to nowhere until the night a mysterious call lights her phone up bright orange—the color of emergencies. It’s the local hospital. They need Nikki to identify a Jane Doe who is barely hanging on to life after a horrible attack.

The victim is Peyton Hollis, a popular girl from Nikki’s school who Nikki hardly knows. One thing is clear: Someone wants Peyton dead. But why? And why was Nikki’s cell the only number in Peyton’s phone?

As she tries to decipher the strange kaleidoscope of clues, Nikki finds herself thrust into the dark, glittering world of the ultra-rich Hollis family, and drawn towards Peyton’s handsome, never-do-well older brother Dru. While Nikki’s colors seem to help her unravel the puzzle, what she can’t see is that she may be falling into a trap. The only truth she can be sure of is that death is a deep, pulsing crimson.

Shade Me is award-winning author Jennifer Brown’s first book in a thrilling suspense series about Nikki Kill.

*** I RECIEVED THIS BOOK ON EDELWEISS IN EXCHANGED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW. THANK YOU TOO KATHERINE TEGEN BOOKS!

Now I know this book is not for everybody but I absolutely love and enjoy Shade Me very much. It was really a new and refreshing concept and plot that I have not read before. The writing style was very expressive and descriptive to me that I really loved and enjoy reading. And the characters was well developed and unique in there own way. Especially I really did feel connected too the main character Nikki Kill. Nikki Kill can not see the world like us because she has a rare phenomenon called synesthesia. She can hear colors, feel sounds and taste shapes and it is very difficult for Nikki too concentrate in school with her rare ability. Nikki school life is not looking so great for her she is a complete outsider from her school and she is a just a shy away from flunking out of High School. Until one night everything changes for Nikki when she received a mysterious call on her cell that lights up bright orange the color of emergencies. And she finds out that it is the local hospital that needs her help too identify a Jane Doe who is in critical condition. Nikki didn't want to go at first but the nurse beg her to come to the hospital because she was probably the only one who can Identify the Jane Doe. Because they only found Nikki number on Jane Doe cell phone. So Nikki had no choice but to go to the hospital and identify this critical injured victim. And Ohh boy when Nikki finds out who Jane Doe really is none other than the rich and popular girl from her school Peyton Hollis who Nikki hardly knows. And which she is not a friend of Peyton Nikki is really confuse on why Peyton had her number in her cell. But one thing is clear someone wants Peyton Hollis dead. Nikki knows she should stay out of the case and let the police handle it, but she had to find out who wants Peyton dead. And that's when things starts to twist and turn Nikki life upside down. And Nikki finds out a lot of hidden dark ugly truth in the rich Hollis family especially from Dru Peyton handsome never-do-well older brother who Nikki is really drawn too. And here is where I am going to leave it of at, there was a lot of twist and turns in the clues that left me guessing until almost at the end of the book I put the pieces to the mystery together. I am glad and happy this is a series which I am most definitely am going to continue on reading the series when the next book comes out. Because the ending left off with a lot of unanswered questions that I really what to find out the answered too. Especially to see Nikki relationship with a certain someone who grates on her nerves grow. But I have a feeling that certain someone will grow into something more for Nikki I just can tell he will be very special person in Nikki life!

I let my hands drop at my sides, let him glide closer and closer, the heat of his month against my skin leaving pulsing violet drops across my shoulders. Soon I was pushing my hands through his hair, kissing him back.

I laughed, just as the elevator arrived and the doors opened. I took two more steps towards him, so close I could smell his aftershave. "Well, I'll tell you what, you spill your secrets, and I'll spill mine." I tugged his collar to straighten it. He followed my fingers with his eyes, the intensity never fading, I leaned close to whisper in his ear. "In the meantime step off."
