Can't-Wait Wednesday #3: Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne

Wednesday, February 21, 2018

When I first started book blogging back in 2015 I starting to participate in  “Waiting On Wednesday”  that was a weekly meme that was originally created by Breaking The Spine.  Unfortunately Breaking the Spine is no longer hosting so I’m now linking my posts up to Wishful Endings Can’t Wait Wednesday. Don’t forget to stop over, link up and check out what books everyone else is waiting for.

Here Is My Can't Wait Wednesday Pick For The Week:
Title:  Brightly Burning
By  Alexa Donne
Publication Date: May 1st, 2018, by HMH Books for Young Readers
Seventeen-year-old Stella Ainsley wants just one thing: to go somewhere—anywhere—else. Her home is a floundering spaceship that offers few prospects, having been orbiting an ice-encased Earth for two hundred years. When a private ship hires her as a governess, Stella jumps at the chance. The captain of the Rochester, nineteen-year-old Hugo Fairfax, is notorious throughout the fleet for being a moody recluse and a drunk. But with Stella he’s kind.

But the Rochester harbors secrets: Stella is certain someone is trying to kill Hugo, and the more she discovers, the more questions she has about his role in a conspiracy threatening the fleet.
This book has everything that I absolutely love in a book. It is a young adult, sci-fi, and retelling, but I don't know what retelling it is about. I am guessing it is a retelling of the film of The Sound Of Music just by the sound of the synopsis is about. Please do tell me what your opinion is on what you think which retelling is  Brightly Burning is about.

  7. This cover and title really remind me of A Shadow Bright and Burning by Jessica Cluess. I've never seen A Sound of Music, so I'm not sure if that's what it's retelling or not.

  9. I've seen this cover around and never real paid attention before, I think because it reminded me of another book or two I've seen and I assumed it was a sequel. Now that I've read the blurb it sounds pretty good! Thanks so much for sharing!

  11. This book sounds interesting, but I'm not entirely convinced that it's one I could love. I'm going to have to wait until reviewers I trust start posting their reviews.

  12. I'm not sure this is a retelling of The Sound of Music, but I guess if the captain is in danger of being killed, that could be like the WWII Germans. In any case, hope you like it!

  21. It's definitely not The Sound of Music, I think it's a sci-fi version of Jayne Eyre. Knowing what I do about the ending of that book...I think this will be great! I'm loving retellings right now.
