Sam Dryden, retired special forces, lives a quiet life in a small town on the coast of Southern California. While out on a run in the middle of the night, a young girl runs into him on the seaside boardwalk. Barefoot and terrified, she’s running from a group of heavily armed men with one clear goal—to kill the fleeing child. After Dryden helps her evade her pursuers, he learns that the eleven year old, for as long as she can remember, has been kept in a secret prison by forces within the government. But she doesn’t know much beyond her own name, Rachel. She only remembers the past two months of her life—and that she has a skill that makes her very dangerous to these men and the hidden men in charge.

Dryden, who lost his wife and young daughter in an accident five years ago, agrees to help her try to unravel her own past and make sense of it, to protect her from the people who are moving heaven and earth to find them both. Although Dryden is only one man, he’s a man with the extraordinary skills and experience—as a Ranger, a Delta, and five years doing off-the-book black ops with an elite team. But, as he slowly begins to discover, the highly trained paramilitary forces on their heels is the only part of the danger they must face. Will Rachel’s own unremembered past be the most deadly of them all?

( I won Runner on Goodreads First-Reads so thank you so much to First-Reads! )

What an amazing action packed and thrilling ride reading Runner was like for me WOW! I need to start to read more action thriller books because this one was so good for me me! Awesome Plot, characters and well developed story to me. I really did loved and enjoyed it a lot!

The book start off on Sam Dryden taking a run in the middle of the night before the sun comes up. Because he can't sleep without having nightmares about memories of his good life in the past that sometimes is a nightmare for him! His running and thinking about his past life and his job in the special forces until he stops at a certain spot on the boardwalk that he always stops at. He does not know why he stops there he just feel like he is drawn to the spot for a reason he just can't but his finger on it for why. Until a young girl liberally runs into him on that spot she is barefoot and scare out of her mind. The young girl almost runaway from Sam until Sam called out to her if she is ok. He can see she is frighten and that she is running away from somebody she stops and looks at Sam and than ask for his help before the people she is running away from comes looking for her. At first Sam didn't want to help her, but he took a couple of seconds to think about helping this young girl and he quickly decide to help her. Because she reminded him of someone special to him and I don't want to spoil it for anybody on who is that special someone is you have to read this awesome book to find who that special person is! But I think I am going to leave it off here I will just say that Sam Dryden learns really quick that somebody from the higher up in the government wants this young girl who only knows her name is Rachel and that she has an extraordinary dangerous skill that the government wants her to be killed for it! and this is where I am going to leave it off at! All and all Runner was an awesome read for me that I can't wait to continue to read the next book from this series because that ending OMGoodness that ending!
